Pain in the
feet
Pain in the
feet can be caused by inflammation of the joints,
strain of the soft tissues, (fascia, muscles, tendons,
ligaments) or irritation of nerves
Foot Pain can
be caused locally or by tension, strain, imbalance and
stiffness in the calves, knees, quad's and hami's, hips,
pelvis and low back.
Versatile
Your feet are an
absolute marvel. Think of what they do.
Their ability to
adapt to whatever surface you tread on, the loads they bear,
the amount of time you spend using them and the distances
they carry you, are flabbergasting.
Almost beyond belief
You take about 200 million steps every 50
or 60 years.
One of the things
that really amazes me about the feet is that we don’t get
more problems than we do.
Pain
But problems we do
get. Problems with feet tell us they are there in the usual
musculo-skeletal way, with pain.
It
burns
Probably the most
common foot problem is plantar fasciitis - burning or
stinging pain on the sole of one or both feet.
This is a symptom that relates to a few problems like
heel spurs, falling arches, bunions and tight calf
muscles.
Silver Bullet
You can manage many
of the common foot problems yourself. Simply stretching
your calves is a silver bullet for many foot
problems.
The way to find out
if tight calves are causing or contributing to your foot (or
back) pain is to start stretching your calves. And not once
or twice. Lots. Like 3 to 10 times a day. Every day. My
favourite is the Calf
Step Stretch.
Some problems, like
bad arthritis or collapsed arches, need professional help.
Some, like mortons neuroma or severe bunions
need surgery to fix.
